Gifts to Club Sport- Men's Hockey contribute to...
Founded in the early ’70s, the men’s club hockey team is one of the first club sports established at St. Bonaventure University.
What started out as a club then became an NCAA team before returning to its club roots in the mid ’90s. The bond between the players from all those teams remains strong.
The support in the stands wherever our hockey team plays is always felt. Hockey reunions through the years have tied our club and NCAA players together as one program.
The hockey program has a strong culture of brotherhood, tying in our Franciscan values of compassion, wisdom, and integrity. The growth of the program over the years is due to the commitment from these young men to represent not only the university but the alumni who came before them.
Today, St. Bonaventure has two men’s club ice hockey teams. Our top Varsity team competes in the ACHA, the highest level of club ice hockey in the country. Our D2 team competes at the AAU level. Each roster accommodates 30 players annually. Home games are played at the William O. Smith Center in Olean, just four miles from campus.
The program continues to reach new heights. This past season, the Varsity team captured the UNYCHL Championship, finished with an impressive 25-5-1 overall record, earned a Top 10 national ranking, and advanced to the ACHA National Tournament. In addition, both the Varsity and D2 teams experienced record high participation, with increased practice and game ice throughout the season, further demonstrating the program’s continued growth, depth, and commitment to excellence across all levels.
