Advocate Responsibilities

As an Advocate, you help to create some excitement about Bona Giving Day through social media, email, text, and encourage your friends to donate. We urge you to offer your gift as a match or challenge to help inspire your network to give. Following Bona Giving Day, we ask that you thank those who participated via email and social media.

Become an Advocate

St. Bonaventure University is happy to announce a partnership with GiveCampus as our new social fundraising platform for Bona Giving Day!

We ask that Advocates create an account through GiveCampus. This is the only way we can effectively track the impact of your outreach efforts, which will be displayed on our page. Creating an account will allow you to seamlessly share messaging via social media.

You no longer need to create a page as needed in the past for Bona Giving Day. Instead, while logged into your GiveCampus user account, all sharing buttons generate a campaign link that is unique to you. When you use these buttons to share the campaign or the advocacy dashboard, your impact will be tracked and celebrated next to your name on the Advocates tab on the campaign page.

Getting Started

 Step 1: Sign Up

Go to givecampus.com and click on ‘Sign Up’ in the top right corner of the page. Create an account and watch for an email from GiveCampus. (Be sure to check your junk mail.) If you already have an account, please move on to step 3.

When searching for schools or campaigns we are listed as “St. Bonaventure University” (not “Saint”). Please do not use other versions/spellings, such as “Saint” or omit the period, when creating your profile or you will not be connected with us.

 Step 2: Create an Account

Create an account by linking to your Facebook account or using your personal email. Linking to your Facebook account is easy and if you are already logged into Facebook, you won’t need an additional password to log into your GiveCampus account. If you use your email address, be sure to check for a confirmation email message once you have completed the sign-up process.

Step 3: Become an Advocate and Consider Your Own Gift

Now that you’ve logged into GiveCampus, you can become and advocate, make a gift, and create a matching gift or challenge.

💌  Share, share, and share some more!

The built-in sharing buttons on the campaign page generate a link that is unique to you. If you share while you are logged in, we can track it and celebrate your impact!

Share via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, email, text message, phone call, carrier pigeon… The sky is the limit!

🎥  Tell Your Story

Create a personal plea and post it to the campaign page!

Film a quick video in which you tell your community why you support The Bonaventure Fund, and why others should get involved with #BonaGivingDay. Keep it quick, casual, and fun!

🤝 Creating a Matching Gift or Challenge

Inspire your friends by creating a matching gift or challenge. We recommend you make your match or challenge as simple as possible.

Please note: GiveCampus does not store or save your credit card information.

❓ What is the difference between a match and a challenge?

Matches and challenges differ in that a match will match dollars/donors as they come in, while challenges unlock ONLY IF a certain threshold is reached. The key difference is that challenges are milestone-based and matches are made on a per-donor or per-dollar basis. Both matches and challenges can be restricted to specific groups (e.g. class year, alumni chapter, or a list of friends).

When setting up your Match or Challenge, we encourage you to give your entire gift, regardless of whether the terms of your match or challenge are met. Otherwise, we may not receive your gift at all.

Match can be set up as matching $X per donor OR $X per $1 donated. For example, "Albus Dumbledore will match $2 per $1 donated up to $5,000" OR “Professor Trelawney will match $50 per donor up to $5,000” (please see the 'match' screenshot below).  The donor will be counted in the overall total and the associated leaderboards as soon as they set up the Match, but they will have $0 associated with them until they start matching gifts and then dollars will reflect the amount that has been matched as qualifying donors give.

Challenge is set up in such a way that a donor will give $X if Y number of donors give OR the donor will give $X if $Y is donated. For example, “Hermione Granger will give $1,000 if 50 donors give” OR ”Harry Potter will give $1,000 if $1,000 is donated” (please see the “Challenge” screenshot below). Challenges are all-or-nothing in that the dollars are not released unless the threshold specified in the terms of the Challenge is met. The donor and their challenge dollars will be counted in the over total and the associated leaderboards only once the threshold is met and the Challenge is unlocked.

⭐ Creating a Match

1. Click on the ‘Offer a Matching Gift’ button.

2. Enter the maximum amount you would like to match (e.g. up to $250).

3. Select if you want the match to be 1:1 match. Then, choose if you would like to make a ‘per dollar’ or ‘per donor’ match. If you click ‘other,’ you can choose to donate $5 (or another amount) for every dollar or donor matched.

4. Select when the match should end (e.g. when the campaign is over).

5. Be sure to select the alumni chapter, class year, or list of friends your match is intended for. For example, you can choose an affiliation group such as alumni, a class year, or specific individuals by email.

If you do not choose one, the match will be available to everyone who makes a gift.

6. Enter your payment information.

7. Once the day arrives, encourage your friends to join you in supporting Bona Giving Day!
